
Men's Tennis Edged at Penn, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown men's tennis team was defeated at Penn, 4-3, in a closely contended Ivy League match on Sunday.
The doubles matches were back-and-forth, with the Quakers taking the point with wins in second and third doubles. Freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) posted a 6-4 win in second doubles.
Brown battled back in singles' play, recording wins in first and second singles. Junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) won his match (first singles) 6-1, 7-5, and sophomore Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) posted the second singles win (6-4, 6-0). Penn then followed with wins in fifth and sixth singles.
Sophomore Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) next won fourth singles, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 to knot to score 3-3, but then it was Josh Pompan in third singles that won it for Penn, clinching the match with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5 win.
The Bears will next host back-to-back Ivy League matches, starting with No. 56 Cornell on Saturday, April 9, and wrapping up with No. 28 Columbia on Sunday, April 10. Both matches will start at noon.
