
Women's Water Polo Edges Fresno Pacific, Falls to No. 17 Wagner

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's water polo bested Fresno Pacific University, 9-7, before falling to No. 17 Wagner College, 13-3, at Blodgett Pool on Saturday at the Harvard Invitational.
The Bears (4-12) gained a 6-1 lead and held off a rally on their way to the win over the Sunbirds (6-5) before dropping the decision to the nationally-ranked Seahwaks (12-8).
Senior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) and sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) each scored three goals between the two games while sophomore goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) totaled 17 saves on the day.
Next, Brown plays at Connecticut College on Wednesday, Mar. 23 at 7 p.m. before beginning an eight-game swing through the state of California from Mar. 26-31.
Game 1: Brown 9, Fresno Pacific 7
Santiago, junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.), and freshmen McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) and Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) each scored two goals as Brown defeated Fresno Pacific, 9-7, Saturday afternoon in its first game at the Harvard Invite.
Heilman added the Bears' other goal while Dakan made eight saves, including four stops in the first quarter.
The Bears staked themselves to a 6-1 advantage with 2:59 to play in the first half and held off a second-half rally from the Sunbirds with a pair of timely goals in the fourth quarter.
Santiago and Kolokotronis each scored from two meters inside of the first two minutes to give Brown an early 2-0 edge. FPU netted a marker later in the period to pull within 2-1 through one.
Brown deposited the second quarter's first four goals to take its 6-1 lead. Heilman started the run with a goal from two meters before Miller scored from the top of the arc on the power play. Rosas then registered back-to-back goals on a left wing attempt prior to a turnaround shot. The Sunbirds scored before the half to cut their deficit to 6-2 at the break.
After Miller opened the third quarter with a goal from the left wing, Fresno Pacific used a 3-0 run to trim its margin to 7-5 heading to the fourth quarter, scoring the last goal in the frame with one second on the clock.
The Bears responded as Kolokotronis scored from the right wing on the man advantage less than a minute into the final frame. After an FPU tally, Santiago pushed Brown's lead to 9-6 with a 6-on-5 goal with 3:32 to play.

Game 2: No. 17 Wagner 13, Brown 3
Dakan made nine saves in the game, but No. 17 Wagner earned a 13-3 win over Brown in the Bears' second game of the day at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday night.
Heilman paced the Bears with two goals while Santiago added a tally of her own. Dakan turned aside five shots in the first quarter to keep the Bears within striking distance.
Wagner opened up the game with a 3-0 lead after the first period despite Dakan's five stops. Heilman then scored with 4:50 to go in the second quarter to bring Brown within 3-1. The Seahawks netted the period's remaining four goals to pull ahead 7-1 at the break.
The Seahawks gained a 10-1 advantage with 3:35 to play in the third quarter before back-to-back goals from the Bears. Heilman scored at the 2:55 mark, and Santiago notched a goal at the 1:10 mark to bring Brown within 10-3. Wagner scored once more in the third and logged both of the final frame's tallies.
The Seahawks logged their second win of the season over the Bears after Wagner topped Brown, 6-3, on Feb. 7 at the Bruno Classic in Providence.
