Women's Water Polo Drops 10-6 Decision at No. 25 CSU Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Senior Olivia Santiago scored a team-high two goals, but Brown University women's water polo dropped a 10-6 decision at No. 25 CSU Northridge on Tuesday afternoon at Matador Pool.
Continuing their California road trip, the Bears (6-15) gained a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but the host Matadors (10-14) scored the game's next six goals on the way to the win.
Supporting Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.), junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.), sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), and freshman Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) each netted one goal.
Dodd tacked on two assists, two steals, and two ejections drawn while freshman Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) contributed a team-high five steals. Heilman, Kolokotronis, and Santiago chipped in four, two, and two steals respectively.
Sophomore goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) totaled nine saves and two steals.
Heilman and Kolokotronis each scored a goal inside of the game's first 3:10 to spot Brown to a 2-0 lead. After the Matadors tied the score at 2-2, Santiago and Rosas posted a goal apiece in the first quarter's final 1:50 to push the Bears ahead, 4-2.
CSUN netted all three of the second quarter's goals to take a 5-4 edge at halftime. The hosts completed their 6-0 run, pulling ahead 8-5 with 4:45 to go in the third quarter.
Dodd scored with 1:28 left in the third to cut Brown's deficit to 8-5. CSUN logged the fourth quarter's first two tallies to stake itself to a 10-5 lead before Santiago recorded the game's final marker with 5:45 to play.
Next, Brown continues its Golden State swing tomorrow against Azusa Pacific (5 p.m. ET) and Chapman University (10 p.m. ET) with both games taking place on the campus of Chapman.
