
#5 Brown Holds Off #14 Harvard Behind Bellistri's Three Goals

Boston, Mass. – Senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) scored three goals, including two in the final five minutes, to enable the fifth-ranked Brown men's lacrosse team to stay unbeaten (6-0, 1-0 Ivy) and hold off #14 Harvard, 11-8, in the Ivy League opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Harvard Stadium.
Brown seemed to be in control of the game, leading 8-2 with 4:28 left in the first half following Bellistri's first goal.
But Harvard (4-3, 0-1 Ivy) scored five unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes, cutting Brown's lead to 8-7 on Will Walker's second goal of the 5-0 run with 14:05 left in the game.
Bears' senior attackman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) stopped the Crimson run and lifted the Bears to a two-goal lead, 9-7, on his second goal with 9:00 left on the clock.
Devin Dwyer made it a one-goal game for the Crimson, 9-8, scoring with 5:51 left in the final quarter.
Bellistri, who ranks second in the nation in scoring, came to the rescue and scored consecutive goals for the Bears, the first with 5:01 remaining on a pass from senior Bailey Tills (Denver, CO), and then again with 2:47 left in the game on an assist by freshman Carson Song (Charlotte, NC).
Bellistri's three goals came on six shots, while also picking up two ground balls. Blynn had two goals and an assist, senior Matt Graham (Amityville, NY) added two goals and an assist, and sophomore Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) netted two goals for the Bears.
Brown captured 15-of-22 face-offs, led by senior Will Gural (Haverford, PA), who won 14-of-21 face-offs and picked up nine ground balls.
Senior All-American Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) made nine saves in goal for the Bears, while junior All-American long stick Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT) wreaked havoc with the Crimson, registering five caused turnovers and picking-up seven ground balls.
Harvard was paced by Walker with two goals and an assist. Crimson goalie Bryan Moore played the game's last 45 minutes and made 10 saves, while allowing six goals.
Brown opened a 5-2 lead after one quarter on a goal by junior All-American Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) and two each by Hudak and Graham. Harvard's Morgan Cheek scored with five seconds left in the quarter to get back in the game.
Blynn and Tills scored for the Bears to open the second quarter and give Brown an 8-2 advantage. Sean McDonagh's goal with 1:53 left in the opening half cut the Bears' lead to 8-3 at intermission and ignited the 5-0 Harvard run.
The Bears will be idle until a Tuesday, March 29 match-up at #6 Villanova, with face-off scheduled for 4:00 pm.
