Men's Tennis Posts 5-2 Win Over Illinois State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated Illinois State, 5-2, on Friday.
Brown had a strong start to the match and won all three doubles matches. Freshman Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) and sophomore Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) won 7-5 in first singles and were followed but the duo of sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) in second doubles (6-1) and junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and sophomore Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) in third doubles (6-4).
For singles action, Tarwid posted a solid win in second singles, 6-1, 6-3. Mitak captured third singles 6-4, 6-3, and Haworth won fourth singles, 6-3, 7-6. Tan rounded out the singles wins in the fifth spot (7-5, 6-2).
The Bears are back in action on Sunday (March 20) when they host No. 53 St. John's for a 2:00 p.m. match.
