HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Brown baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Marshall, falling 7-2 and 2-0, on Saturday to continue a four-game against the Thundering Herd at Kennedy Center Field.

Brown moves to 1-5 overall, while Marshall improves to 7-6 on the season.

Game 1: Marshall 7, Brown 2
JD Hammer went the distance for Marshall in the first game, allowing two runs and four hits in a complete game effort. Reid Anderson (Aledo, Texas) took the loss for the Bears, giving up six runs in 4.1 innings of work. Matt Beyer (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing one run with four strikeouts, before Robbie Stephens (Lexington, Ky.) tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

Rob Henry (Cranston, R.I.) provided the offense for the Bears with a two-run home run, his first of the season.

Marshall jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the opening frame, and then added two more in both the third and fifth innings for the six-run advantage.

After Tim McKeithan (Arden, N.C.) leadoff the sixth with a hit by pitch, Henry launched a two-run shot over the left field fence, but Marshall responded with one more in the bottom half to stretch the lead to five runs.

Despite back-to-back hits by Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) and McKeithan to open the eighth, Hammer secured six straight outs to secure the win.

Game 2: Marshall 2, Brown 0
Austin French (Orange, Conn.) threw seven strong innings for the Bears in the second game, giving up just four hits and two runs with six strikeouts in the loss. JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

Patrick Murphy earned the win on the other side with five scoreless runs before Burris Warner earned his third save of the season.

Brown outhit the home team by a 6-5 margin, but Tommy Lane provided the only scoring of the game with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

The two teams will complete a four-game series tomorrow for the fourth and final game at 11 a.m.
