
Fencing Concludes Competition at Ivy League Fencing Round Robins

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Samuel Koch earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in men's epee for the second straight year as Brown University fencing concluded competition at the 2016 Ivy League Fencing Round Robins at Barton Hall on the campus of Cornell University on Sunday.
On day two, the Bears' men's side fell to No. 8 Princeton, 20-7, and to No. 1 Columbia, 21-6. The men's epee squad pushed the Lions in a 5-4 setback.
The women's side dropped decisions to No. 3 Princeton, 24-3, Cornell, 19-8, and No. 1 Columbia, 20-7. The women's epee squad challenged the Big Red in a 5-4 loss, and the women's sabre squad tested the Lions in a 5-4 setback.
Koch (San Francisco, Calif.) went 9-6 in men's epee action to tie for fourth place. Senior Simon Jones (Louisville, Colo.) – a First-Team All-Ivy performer last season – supported him with an 8-7 mark.
In men's sabre, junior Alex Palabrica (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched an 8-5 record, finishing in eighth place and just one win shy of tying for sixth. Sophomore Alexander Catoya (Rutherford, N.J.) picked up three wins. In men's foil, senior Kyle Kennedy (Wall, N.J.) and freshman Umar Masood (Pittsford, N.Y.) grabbed five and four victories respectively.
Sophomore Signe Ferguson (Wilmington, Del.) paced the women's team with a 12-6 mark, taking eighth place in women's epee. Senior Yoojin Cha (Seoul, South Korea) claimed four wins in the same weapon.
In women's sabre, senior Lauren Altman (New York, N.Y.) collected seven wins while classmate Stephanie Hojsak (Tenafly, N.J.) triumphed twice. In women's foil, seniors Audrey Lee (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and Tamsin Board (Cambridge, Mass.) each logged three wins.
Next, Brown will compete at the Temple Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 20.
