Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekend with Wins Over Binghamton and Quinnipiac

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over Binghamton and a 4-3 win against Quinnipiac in Saturday's action at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
For the first dual of the day against Binghamton, junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) got the Bears going with a 6-1, 6-1 win in first singles. Brown won second through fourth singles with victories from freshman Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) (7-6, 6-1), sophomore Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) (7-6, 6-2) and sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) (6-3, 5-7, 6-3). Freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) closed out singles play with a commanding win in the sixth spot, 6-0, 6-1. The Bears swept doubles play with Garcia/Tarwid winning first doubles (6-2), Haworth/Mitak taking second doubles (6-4) and sophomore Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio)/Tan claiming third doubles (6-2).
Against Quinnipiac in the latter match, Tarwid won first singles 6-3, 6-0 while Haworth (6-3, 6-2), Tan (6-4, 6-0) and sophomore Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) (6-4, 6-4) won their singles matches. Quinnipiac won the doubles point with Sandberg/Tan posting the lone win for the Bears in doubles play.
The Bears will next compete in the ECAC Championships on Friday, February 12 through Sunday, February 14, taking place at Penn.
