
Miller, Santiago Net Hat Tricks, Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 4 Hawaii, 17-10

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Olivia Santiago and freshman McKenna Miller each scored three goals as Brown University women's water polo dropped a 17-10 decision to the No. 4 University of Hawai'i on Friday night on the opening day of the Bruno Classic at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
In their home opener, the Bears (0-3) remained within four goals for much of the game before the visiting Rainbow Wahine (7-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.), sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), and freshmen Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) and Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) each netted one goal.
Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) and Miller (Danville, Calif.) each posted goals inside of the first 4:09 to keep the score tied at 2-2 before Hawaii gained a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
A pair of goals from Miller allowed the Bears to remain within 7-4 at the 2:23 mark of the second quarter, and a tally from Kolokotronis pulled Brown within 8-5 with 44 seconds left in the half. The Rainbow Wahine led 9-5 at the break.
Markers from Santiago and Heilman in the last 90 seconds of the third quarter made the score 11-7 prior to the visitors bringing a 12-7 advantage into the final period.
Santiago, Woo, and McDougal each scored goals in the fourth quarter to help Brown stay within 14-10 with 3:18 remaining, but Hawaii charted the game's last three goals.
Next, Brown faces Hartwick (11:20 a.m.), St. Francis Brooklyn (2:50 p.m.), and Indiana (6:20 p.m.) tomorrow before concluding action at the Bruno Classic on Sunday vs. Wagner (4:10 p.m.).
