
Women's Water Polo Rallies Past Mercyhurst, 7-5

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Jessica Heilman scored a hat trick for the second time in three games to lead Brown University women's water polo to a come-from-behind 7-5 win over Mercyhurst University on Sunday morning at Moyer Pool.
In their final game at the Hartwick Invitational, the Bears (3-11) rallied from a 4-0 deficit, scoring six unanswered goals, to take a 6-4 lead midway through the fourth quarter en route to the victory over the Lakers (3-3).
Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) paced the Brown offense with her three goals while adding two assists and two steals. Senior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) supported her with two goals, three ejections drawn, two steals, and an assist.
Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) tallied a goal, two assists, and two sprints won while senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) chipped in a goal.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made six saves and two steals. She limited the Lakers to one goal over the last 20 minutes of the game.
Freshman Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) drew two ejections and dished out an assist while senior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) each logged two steals.
Mercyhurst opened the game with a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and extended its edge to 4-0 at the 4:48 mark of the second quarter.
The Bears then began their rally as Heilman scored the team's first goal with just under four minutes to play in the half. Santiago brought Brown within 4-2 at the half with the team's second goal.
Brown netted all three of the third quarter's markers to pull ahead 5-4 through three frames. Dodd started the second half's scoring before Heilman registered back-to-back goals to give the Bears their first lead with 1:41 to go in the third.
Santiago capped Brown's 6-0 run with a goal midway through the fourth frame. The Lakers pulled within 6-5 with 2:30 remaining, but Kolokotronis charted an insurance tally for the Bears 22 seconds later.
Brown finished the tournament 3-1 in all contests and 2-1 in NCAA play.
Next, Brown will play two games at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, March 5 as the Bears will face Fresno Pacific at 11:45 a.m. and No. 20 Wagner at 7:15 p.m.
