ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) captured the 500-meter title as the Brown men's track & field team placed sixth on the final day of the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championship Sunday held at Cornell.
Brown totaled 42 points to finish behind Princeton (165), Cornell (142), Dartmouth (80), Penn (75) and Harvard (46), and ahead of Yale (38) and Columbia (32).
"We just left too many opportunities out there," said Tim Springfield, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. "We knew going in we were a little short handed with injuries, but we had our chances for a stronger finish and didn't get it done. I can tell you it wasn't for lack of effort though. We went after it."
Emrich captured first place in the finals of the 500 meters, edging Penn's Jeff Wiseman with a time of 1:03.09, returning the favor from last year's Heps finish when Wiseman topped Emrich in the final.
Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) placed third overall in the finals of the 400 meters in a time of 48.51, while Nik Zemis was sixth in the event at 49.66. Kelly also placed fourth in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 21.08, followed by Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.) in seventh at 22.14.
Kelly, Zemis, Oyewole and Emrich then teamed up for a third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:17.58.
The 4x800 meter relay team of rookies Eli Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.), Dylan Groos (Nashville, Tenn.), Cameron McKie and senior Christian Bermel (Windsor, Conn.) placed fourth at 7:38.30, eighth all-time at Brown.
In the field, Aaron Comery (Coventry, R.I.) earned a fourth-place in the shot put with a toss of 55-11.75, moving from seventh to fourth on his final attempt. Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 49-08.50 for fourth all-time at Brown.
In the weight throw on Saturday, rookie Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) used an opening toss of 63-11.50 to claim third place, setting a new personal best for fourth all-time in program history.
