Women's Water Polo Wins Two of Three at Day One of Hartwick Invite

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Brown University women's water polo defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 12-4, and fell to No. 10 Hartwick College, 18-9, while edging CAMO Montreal in an exhibition, 8-7, on Saturday in Moyer Pool at the Hartwick Invitational.
On day one of the tournament, the Bears (2-11, 0-1 CWPA) topped CAMO in its first game on the day, beat the Terriers (2-8) for the second time this season, and dropped the decision to the Hawks (8-3, 1-0 CWPA) in their CWPA conference opener.
Sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) led the Bears with six goals between the three contests.
Next, Brown concludes play at the Hartwick Invitational tomorrow when the Bears play Mercyhurst at 10:15 a.m.
Game 1: Brown 8, CAMO Montreal 7 (Exhibition)
Senior Olivia Santiago and Heilman each scored two goals to lead Brown to an 8-7 win over Club Aquatique de Montreal in an exhibition on Saturday afternoon in the team's first game of the Hartwick Invitational.
Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) and Heilman netted four of Brown's five goals in the second half to lead the Bears to victory.
Senior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.), junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.), and freshmen Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) and Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) each posted one goal.
Brown opened the game with a 2-1 lead after the first quarter as Woo and McDougal found the back of the net. The two sides stood tied, 3-3, at the half as Pierotti notched the team's lone goal in the second stanza.
Santiago deposited both of the Bears' goals in the third quarter, keeping Brown within 6-5 of CAMO heading to the fourth frame.
In the final period, Heilman tied the score at 6-6 before Kolokotronis put Brown up 7-6 with 4:50 to play. After a CAMO goal, Heilman scored with 2:19 to go to give the Bears their final margin.

Game 2: Brown 12, St. Francis Brooklyn 4
Heilman netted a game-high three goals to pace seven Brown scorers as the Bears defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 12-4, on Saturday afternoon in their second game at the Hartwick Invitational.
Heilman tallied a team-high five steals plus an assist alongside her hat trick while Santiago, Kolokotronis, and freshman McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) each netted two goals. Santiago added two ejections drawn and two steals, and Kolokotronis made three steals.
Sophomore goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) turned aside seven shots, recorded four assists, and had two steals.
McDougal, Woo, and freshman Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) netted one goal apiece. Senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) picked up three steals, Pierotti totaled two assists and two steals, and Woo dished out two assists. Brown compiled 17 steals as a team.
Heilman put the Bears on the board first before a goal from the Terriers.
The Bears then scored seven unanswered goals to pull ahead 7-1 with 4:48 to play in the third quarter. McDougal started the run with a goal at the end of the first frame before tallies from Kolokotronis, Miller, and Rosas gave Brown a 5-1 lead at the half.
Heilman and Miller netted back-to-back goals midway through the third quarter to extend the Bears' edge to 7-1. Goals from Santiago and Heilman kept Brown up 9-3 through three. Santiago, Woo, and Kolokotronis found the back of the net in order in the fourth stanza.
The Bears defeated the Terriers for the second time this season after Brown beat St. Francis, 13-7, on Feb. 6 in the Bruno Classic.

Game 3: No. 10 Hartwick 18, Brown 9
Seven different Bears scored, but Brown fell to host and No. 10 Hartwick, 18-9, in its nightcap on day one of the Hartwick Invitational in its CWPA Opener on Saturday night.
Miller and Rosas each netted two goals while Dodd, Heilman, Kolokotronis, and McDougal posted one goal apiece. Heilman led the team with two assists.
In goal, Dakan made 11 saves.
The Bears drew 12 ejections as a team with Rosas gaining a team-high four ejections drawn. Dodd, Heilman, McDougal, and Miller each drew two ejections.
Hartwick took a 7-4 lead after the first quarter despite tallies from Heilman, Rosas, Santiago, and Dodd. The Hawks scored six of the second quarter's seven goals to pull ahead 13-5 at the break. Kolokotronis posted the visitors' goal in the frame.
Brown bounced back with a 4-2 third quarter to cut its deficit to 15-9 through three frames. Miller netted two goals while McDougal and Rosas each posted one marker. Hartwick tallied all three of the final frame's goals.
