PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer seniors Carly Gould – the leading vote getter among midfielders – and Sydney Calas have earned spots in the 2016 NEWISA Senior Bowl, the New England Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Association announced on Tuesday.
The game will take place at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) led Brown in points (12), goals (four), assists (four), shots (38), shots on goal (18), and game-winning goals (three) this past season. A three-time All-Ivy selection, she finished her career with 64 games played, 60 games started, 36 points, 15 goals, and six game-winning goals.
Acting as the team's primary left back, Calas (Bethesda, Md.) helped Brown rank second in the NCAA in save percentage (0.918), fifth in GAA (.409), and 10th in shutout percentage (0.625) as a team at the end of the regular season. The team allowed just seven goals on the year with 10 shutouts, ranking second on both of Brown's single-season lists. As a team, the Bears led in the Ancient Eight in goals allowed, GAA, and shutouts.
The duo aided Brown in finishing second in the Ivy League standings, marking its highest finish in the league table since winning the conference title in 1994. The Bears earned points in 14 of their 16 matches on the season and finished in the top half of the league standings in back-to-back years for the first time since 1993-94. Brown closed the year with its highest winning percentages both overall (.719) and in conference play (.714) since the year 2000.
Brown boasted the leading vote getter among midfielders for the second straight year after Charlotte Beach '16 gained the distinction in 2015.
Additionally, Gould, junior back Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) all earned Second Team NEWISA All-New England honors.
