Women's Crew Wins Collegiate Women's Eight at Head of the Housatonic

DERBY, Conn. – Brown University women's crew won the Collegiate Women's Eight event at the Head of the Housatonic for the third straight year in its fall season opener at Indian Well State Park on the Housatonic River on Saturday morning.
The Bears' top entry in the event navigated the 2.7-mile course in 13:54.6, earning first place out of 33 entries and topping second-place Yale (14:03.1) by 5.5 seconds, Yale's B entry (14:07.4) by 12.8 seconds, and fourth-place Radcliffe (14:09.7) by 15.1 seconds.
Brown's B boat in the race came in eighth place with a time of 14:43.9, finishing just 0.2 seconds ahead of Brown's C entry. The two boats clipped Radcliffe's C boat (14:49.9), Massachusetts' top entry (14:51.4), and Northeastern's B crew (14:58.9).
The Bears' D entry came in 13th place behind a time of 15:08.2 defeating the top entries from Wellesley (15:08.9) and Fordham (15:09.1).
Other schools represented among the 33 entries included Army West Point, Fairfield, Holy Cross, and Marist.
Brown embarked on its 2016-17 competitive racing season on Saturday coming off a 2015-16 season that saw the Bears win the Ivy team points trophy for the third straight year and place sixth at the NCAA Championships.
Next, Brown will compete at the 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta from Saturday, Oct. 22 to Sunday, Oct. 23.
