
Women's Crew Takes Princeton Chase for Third Win of Fall

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's crew won the women's varsity open eight event at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Lake Carnegie on Sunday morning for the program's third win of the fall season in its finale for the autumn.
The Bears won the event for the second time in three years after also winning the race in 2014. For the fall, Brown picked up three first-place finishes, including wins in the collegiate women's eight at the Head of the Housatonic on Oct. 8 and in the women's club eight at the Head of the Charles on Oct. 22.
In a field of 59 entries, Brown's A boat won the race with a time of 14:14.672, outdistancing second-place Virginia (14:21.485) by 6.813 seconds, third-place Yale (14:32.181) by 8.509 seconds, fourth-place Princeton (14:31.702) by 17.030 seconds, and fifth-place Duke (14:41.829) by 27.157 seconds.
Brown's B entry placed ninth behind a time of 15:02.125 topping Princeton's 10th-place B boat (15:05.333) by 3.208 seconds. Brown came in as the third B boat, defeating 12 A boats, including Dartmouth, UCF, Columbia, and Cornell. The boat finished 19.988 seconds behind sixth-place Yale B (14:42.137), 9.199 seconds behind seventh-place Virginia B (14:52.926), and 7.250 seconds behind Northeastern's A boat (14:54.875).
The Bears' C boat crossed the finish as the top C boat with a time of 15:12.448, earning 14th place. Brown edged 10 A boats including Columbia, Cornell, Drexel, and Rhode Island. The boat bested Columbia's 15th-place A boat (15:12.903) by 0.455 seconds and Cornell's 16th-place A boat (15:18.993) by 6.545 seconds. Dartmouth's 12th-place A boat (15:11.080) and UCF's 13th-place A boat (15:11.381) beat Brown by 1.368 and 1.067 seconds respectively.
Brown's D boat came in as the third D entry to finish and in 35th place overall behind a time of 15:49.490. The Bears clipped A boats from Navy, Rutgers, North Carolina, and Georgetown as well as 10 B boats including Cornell, Rhode Island, and Dartmouth. Brown defeated Navy's C (15:51.836) and A (15:53.363) boats by 2.346 and 3.873 seconds respectively. George Washington's 32nd-place A boat (15:46.271) and Drexel's 33rd-place B boat (15:47.037) topped Brown by 3.219 and 2.453 seconds respectively.
The Bears' E entry – the only E boat in the race – came in 52nd place with a time of 16:37.617. Brown defeated three B boats including Rutgers and Georgetown. The boat topped 53rd-place Princeton D (16:42.188) by 4.571 seconds and 54th-place Rutgers B (16:42.888) by 5.271 seconds. Brown fell to 51st-place UCF B (16:34.714) by 2.903 seconds.
Brown will resume competition in the spring with its spring season opener coming at Princeton with Michigan State on Saturday, March 25, 2017.
