
Field Hockey Falls at Providence, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team was defeated by Providence, 6-1, in a non-conference contest at cross-city rival Providence on Thursday, Sept. 17. Senior Alexis Miller (Caldwell, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season for Brown.
Providence (1-6) opened the first half with three-straight goals off penalty corners. Emma Lucas scored the first PC goal 2:01 into the opening stanza. Adrienne Houle tallied the second goal (3:44), while Megan Hamilton capped off the Friar scoring at 14:16.
Brown (2-3) cut Providence's lead to two (3-1) with Miller's goal at the 23:17 mark. Senior Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.) recorded the assist when she passed to her left from the top of the circle during a penalty corner.
The Friars held the advantage in shots in the first half, 10-2, and penalty corners, 6-4.
Providence notched three more goals in the second half en route to its win. Kali Kilmer converted a penalty stroke at 38:19 to bring the score to 4-1. The next two goals were direct shots off of penalty corners by Lucas (55:10) and Abby Thornton (60:36), respectively.
Freshman Maddie Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) made two defensive saves in the contest.
Freshman Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) recorded 11 saves in the game, while Providence goalkeeper Megan Guilbert made four stops.
Brown returns home to face Saint Joseph's in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, Sept. 19 beginning at 2:30 p.m.
