Angus Powers Bears to 2-1 Overtime Win Versus Saint Joseph's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, British Columbia) scored the game-winning goal at 74:51 in overtime to propel the Bears to a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's in a non-conference match-up on Saturday afternoon. The game-winner was Angus' second of the season. With the win, Brown improves to 3-3 on the season while Saint Joseph's falls to 2-5.

The Hawks took an early lead in the first half, 1:07 into the game when Joely Helder scored. The half concluded with Saint Joseph's holding an 11-2 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in penalty corners.

"When Saint Joseph's scored early in the game it put us on our heals, so at halftime we made some subtle adjustments and that helped us get back into the game," said Head Coach Jill Reeve. "Our team was able to take advantage of that and create some scoring opportunities. I was proud of them for converting in overtime."

Brown came out strong in the second half and held most of the possession in addition to taking a total of eight penalty corners. All eight of the Bears' corners came within an 11 minute span, capped off by the game-tying goal from senior Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) who put back a rebound for her third goal of the season and to tie the game, 1-1, at 55:11.

The two teams remained tied through the end regulation, forcing overtime.

In overtime, Brown was awarded a penalty corner and capitalized. Angus put home the game-winner with freshmen Maddie Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) and Ellie Seid (Larchmont, N.Y.) tallying the assists.

Freshman Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) turned away five shots in the contest while Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Amelia Deibler made a total of eight saves.

The Bears return to action when they face California on Friday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.
