Gymnastics Presents End-of-Year Awards at Annual Banquet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics presented its end-of-the-year awards, which included Most Valuable Gymnast junior Diana Walters, at its annual postseason banquet on Thursday night, head coach Sara Carver-Milne announced.
In addition to Walters (Austin, Texas), the Bears honored freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) as Rookie of the Year, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) as Most Improved, freshman Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) as Unsung Hero, junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) as Most Consistent, and junior Stephanie Choo (Centerville, Ohio) with the Bruno Award.
Carver-Milne also bestowed senior captain Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) with the traditional white sweater presented to Bruno's four-year letter winners and gave the program's freshmen – Anya Barca-Hall (Santa Cruz, Calif.), Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.), Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.), Olson, and Ryan – with the traditional brown sweaters.
Most Valuable Gymnast: Diana Walters (Junior; Austin, Texas)
- Earned USAG All-America honors on floor (first team) and vault (second team)
- Gained Winter Academic All-Ivy accolades and won a RIAIAW Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year Award
Rookie of the Year: Claire Ryan (Freshman; Greenwood, Minn.)
- Earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors three times (Jan. 20, Feb. 3, Feb. 17)
- Competed in 12 meets on the season, primarily on beam and bars
Most Improved: Jorden Mitchell (Sophomore; Indianapolis, Ind.)
- Captured the Ivy-Classic All-Around title and garnered First Team USAG All-America in the all-around
- Earned All-Ivy Classic honors in the all-around and on vault and gained All-ECAC accolades on vault, floor, and the all-around
Unsung Hero: Anya Olson (Freshman; Farmington Hills, Mich.)
- Earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors on Mar. 10
- Partook in 12 meets on the season and competed as an all-around performer in two meets
Most Consistent: Alexandra Chretien (Junior; Commerce Township, Mich.)
- Garnered First Team All-Ivy Classic and First Team All-ECAC honors on bars
- Finished in second place on bars with a season-high 9.850 at the Ivy Classic (Feb. 22)
Bruno Award: Stephanie Choo (Junior; Centerville, Ohio)
- The Bruno Award is given to the gymnast who displays the best sportsmanship, team spirit, and positive motivation throughout the season
- Missed the season due to injury but supported her teammates throughout the year at meets and practices while earning ECAC All-Academic Team honors
