
Dakan Sets Record, Women's Water Polo Tops Conn. College, 10-6

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman goalie Marisol Dakan made nine saves, breaking the Brown single-season saves record, and six different Bears scored goals as Brown University women's water polo defeated Connecticut College, 10-6, on Tuesday night at Lott Natatorium.
The Bears (16-12) beat the Camels (15-13) for the second time in four days as Brown topped Conn. College, 13-3, on Saturday in Providence.
Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) now has 306 saves on the season, breaking Evan Cranston's program record of 296 saves set in 2012. She stopped six shots in the second quarter alone, and the Bears' defense held the hosts to two goals in the first half.
Senior Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, Calif.), junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.), sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.), and freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) each scored two goals. Senior Emily Klein (Pleasanton, Calif.) and junior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) each added one goal.
Rosen added three steals and two assists, Dodd dished out two assists, and Heilman tallied a team-high four steals.
Brown took a 5-1 lead after the first quarter, closing the period on a 4-0 run. Klein posted the game's first goal before the visitors netted four goals in the frame's final 2:17. Crowley notched both of her goals during the run while Rosen and Santiago tacked on markers.
Heilman staked the Bears to a 6-1 edge early in the second quarter before the Camels pulled within 6-2. After over five minutes of scoreless play, Dodd registered a goal with 29 seconds left in the stanza to give Brown a 7-2 lead at halftime.
Dodd scored again to open the second half before Conn. College recorded the third quarter's last three goals to cut its deficit to 8-5 heading into the fourth quarter.
The hosts came within 8-6 before Rosen scored with 2:48 left to push Brown's edge to 9-6. Heilman netted a goal with 54 seconds to play to insure the win.
Next, Brown plays a trio of CWPA games at Princeton from Saturday to Sunday against Indiana (Sat., 11 a.m.), Notre Dame College (Sat., 4 p.m.), and Michigan (Sun., 9 a.m.).
