
Women's Water Polo Splits with Conn. College, Hartwick

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's water polo beat Connecticut College, 13-3, in its home opener prior to falling to Hartwick College, 8-7, in its senior game at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center on Saturday.
The Bears (15-12, 2-1 CWPA) topped the Camels (15-12) in the first meeting between the two sides this season before dropping a close decision to the Hawks (15-18, 4-4 CWPA) for the second time this year. Brown fell at Hartwick, 13-11, on March 14.
Junior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) led the Bears with five goals between the two games while freshman goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) totaled 24 saves between the two contests.
Next, Brown plays at Conn. College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. prior to playing a trio of CWPA games at Princeton from April 11-12 against Indiana (April 11, 11 a.m.), Notre Dame College (April 11, 4 p.m.), and Michigan (April 12, 9 a.m.).
Game 1 – Brown 13, Conn. College 3
Santiago and sophomore Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) each scored three goals, and the Bears' defense held the Camels to three goals as Brown bested Conn. College, 13-3, in its first game of the day.
Junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) recorded two goals, three steals, and one assist while sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) compiled a goal, three assists, and five steals.
Freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), senior Emily Klein (Pleasanton, Calif.), junior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.), and senior Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, Calif.) each netted a single goal. Rosen added four assists while Klein tacked on two assists and two steals.
In net, Dakan logged 13 saves while sophomore Sahana Nazeer (Franklin, Mass.) stopped two shots in relief.
The Bears took a 3-1 lead midway through the first quarter as Santiago posted two goals and Kolokotronis scored the other.
Brown outscored Conn. College 4-0 in the second quarter as Kolokotronis found the back of the net twice, and Santiago and Crowley each scored once to give the hosts a 7-2 lead at halftime.
The Bears again charted a 4-0 quarter in the third period taking an 11-2 edge into the final frame. Dodd, Rosen, Pierotti, and Heilman registered the team's goals in the third stanza.
Klein and Dodd tallied Brown's fourth-quarter markers.

Game 2 – Hartwick 8, Brown 7
Rosen and Santiago each scored two goals, and Dakan made 11 saves but Brown fell to Hartwick in the nightcap, 8-7.
Crowley added a goal and an assist, Kolokotronis contributed a goal, a steal, and en ejection drawn, and senior Rebecca Zak (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored a goal.
Santiago drew a team-high four ejections to go with a steal while Rosen tallied two assists, two steals, and an ejection drawn.
Brown held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter as Santiago opened the scoring less than 30 seconds into the contest. Kolokotronis gave Brown a 2-1 lead midway through the quarter, and Crowley pushed the club's edge to 3-2 with 2:27 to play in the period.
Brown went ahead 4-2 off a goal from Zak just past the midway point of the second stanza, and another goal from Santiago put Brown up 5-3 with three minutes left before halftime. Hartwick scored once more in the frame to pull within 5-4 at the half.
The Hawks netted the third period's only two goals to gain a 6-5 lead heading into the final quarter.
Hartwick gained a 7-5 lead less than a minute into the fourth quarter, but Brown pulled within 7-6 on a goal from Rosen with 4:21 remaining. Rosen scored again 55 seconds later to tie the game at 7-7 before Hartwick took its 8-7 edge with 1:44 to go.
