PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics junior Diana Walters has earned a RIAIAW Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year Award, the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women announced at a reception at Providence College on Wednesday night.
Brown's first-ever USAG Collegiate Nationals All-Around champion, Walters has enjoyed a standout career for the Bears. Over the past three years she has gained seven All-Ivy Classic honors, five All-ECAC accolades, and four USAG All-America laurels.
This past season she won the bars title at the ECAC Championships and garnered All-ECAC on bars, vault, and the all-around. A native of Austin, Texas, Walters helped the Bears qualify for USAG Nationals as a team for the third year in a row – and the third time in program history – where she won All-America honors on floor and vault. The Anderson High School product has qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in each of the last two years.
As a sophomore she won the USAG All-Around title in addition to the Ivy Classic All-Around title. In 2014, she earned All-Ivy Classic on all four events, gained All-ECAC on vault and beam, and won USAG All-America on floor and in the all-around. She helped Brown capture back-to-back team titles at the Ivy Classic in 2013 and 2014 and aided the team in gaining its first-ever ECAC Championship title as a sophomore.
Walters has proven to be equally accomplished outside of competition, earning Winter Academic All-Ivy honors this past year while holding a 3.60 GPA as a Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations concentrator. She has gained ECAC All-Academic Team and USAG Scholar-Athlete accolades in each of the last two years.
She currently serves on the Executive Board of Brown's Student-Athlete Advisory Council and completed an internship at Livestrong during the summer of 2014. Walters also acts as a member of Athletes in Action and Brown Women in Business as well as a volunteer at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School.
