
Dartmouth's Second Half Comeback Topples Brown, 75-69

Hanover, New Hampshire – Junior guard Malik Gill scored 13 of his team high 17 points in the second half as Dartmouth rallied from a 24-point second half deficit to earn a 75-69 win over Brown in an Ivy League game at Leede Arena.
The loss drops the Bears to 13-17 overall, 4-9 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth improves to 13-14 overall, 6-7 in Ivy play.
Brown held a 50-26 lead with 13:58 left in the game when Dartmouth went on an 11-0 spurt to pull to within 13 points, 50-37, at the 12-minute mark on two free throws by Connor Boehm.
With Bears' junior forward Cedric Kuakumensah and sophomore point guard Tavon Blackmon on the bench with four fouls for nearly nine minutes, Dartmouth continued its comeback and took its first lead of the game, 67-66, on a steal and layup by Taylor Johnson with 1:19 left
Blackmon's floater in the lane put the Bears back on top, 68-67, with 1:08 on the clock.
Gill's trey with 49-seconds left in the game gave Dartmouth the lead for good, 70-68.
The final outcome may have been determined by poor free throw shooting by the Bears in the final 20 minutes, connecting 6-of-17 shots the free throw line in the second half.
Bears' senior forward Rafael Maia turned in a dominating performance at both ends of the floor, scoring a game high 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, and completing the double-double with a career high 16 rebounds.
Kuakumensah registered 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bears, while sophomore Steven Spieth also chipped in with 11 points.
Gill's 17 points came on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Connor Boehn posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Big Green.
The Bears opened the game by out-scoring the Big Green, 14-0, at the 13:11 mark following a layup by sophomore Tavon Blackmon.
Brown built an 18-point lead at the 2:25 mark when freshman Jason Massey connected on a trey to give the Bears a 34-16 advantage. A late trey by Big Green guard Kevin Crescenzi put the Bears' lead to 35-22 at intermission.
Maia dominated the opening 20 minutes with a first half double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Bears came out of the locker room and opened the second half with a 12-2 run to pull ahead by a 47-24 margin with 15:50 remaining after a lay-up by Kuakumensah.
