
Women's Water Polo Sweeps Day, Beats Occidental, Whittier

WHITTTIER, Calif. – Sophomore Marisa Kolokotronis totaled eight goals to propel Brown University women's water polo past Occidental College, 10-5, and Whittier College, 10-6, on Sunday evening at Whittier's Slade Aquatics Center.
The Bears (11-10) improved to 3-3 on their 10-game California road swing with their wins over the Tigers (1-16), the eighth-ranked team in Division III, and the host Poets (13-12), the top-ranked team in Division III.
Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) scored five goals against Occidental as she and sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) accounted for all of Brown's goals during a 7-0 run against the Tigers.
Freshman goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) totaled 17 saves between the two contests.
Next, Brown plays a pair of games in Claremont, Calif., on Tuesday with contests against Pomona Pitzer (7:00 p.m. ET) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10:00 p.m. ET).
Game 1 – Brown 10, Occidental 5
Kolokotronis and Crowley scored all the goals during a 7-0 run that allowed Brown to pull away from Occidental in a 10-5 win.
Kolokotronis netted all four of the game's third-quarter goals, and Crowley posted the fourth quarter's first three goals to allow the Bears to turn a 3-2 halftime deficit into a 9-3 advantage with 4:47 to play.
Junior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) notched Brown's other goal while Dakan, who made nine saves, and the Bears' defense held the eighth-ranked team in Division III to two goals in the second half, none in the third period.
Crowley handed out a team-high three assists while junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) notched a team-best four steals. Kolokotronis contributed three steals and three ejections drawn.
After the Tigers opened up the game with a 2-0 lead, Santiago scored with 22 seconds left in the first quarter to cut Oxy's lead in half. Crowley logged the second quarter's first goal before Occidental scored just before the half to take a 3-2 edge after two quarters.
Kolokotronis dominated the third frame, netting all of the quarter's goals to give Brown a 6-3 lead at the end of the period. She scored less than 20 seconds into the quarter than posted three goals inside of the quarter's final 2:40.
Crowley picked up where Kolokotronis left off, finding the back of the net three times to start off the fourth quarter. She gave Brown a 9-3 lead with 4:47 remaining. Occidental posted two late goals in between another tally from Kolokotronis.

Game 2 – Brown 10, Whittier 6
Kolokotronis and Santiago each scored three goals to lead Brown past Whittier, 10-6, in the team's second game of the day.
Senior Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, Calif.), juniors Dodd and Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.), and freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) each netted one goal. In net, Dakan made eight saves.
Dodd made four steals, Crowley logged three assists, Kolokotronis added three steals, and Rosen totaled two assists, two steals, and two ejections drawn.
Kolokotronis posted Brown's first goal with 1:39 to go in the first quarter in between a pair of Poet markers as Whittier took a 2-1 lead after the first.
The Bears outscored the Poets, 3-1, in the second quarter as Kolokotronis and Pierotti notched the period's first two goals to put Brown up 3-2. Whittier, the top-ranked team in DIII, tied the game at 3-3 before Heilman scored with 23 seconds to play before halftime.
After a Poet goal to start the third, Santiago and Kolokotronis scored back-to-back goals to put Brown back up 6-4. Santiago registered another tally with 37 seconds to play in the third to give the Bears a 7-5 edge heading into the fourth.
Dodd pushed Brown's advantage to 8-5 just 21 seconds into the fourth, and Rosen and Santiago charted the game's last two goals to maintain Brown's cushion.
