
Women's Water Polo Beats Concordia, Falls to No. 12 LMU

LOS ANGELES – Brown University women's water polo beat Concordia University, Irvine, 14-8, and fell to No. 12 Loyola Marymount University, 10-6, to close out play at the LMU Invitational at the Burns Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.
On the second and final day of the tournament, the Bears (9-10) topped the Eagles (6-13) in their second game of the day after challenging the host and nationally-ranked Lions (15-8) earlier in the day.
Sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) led the Bears with seven goals between the two games, including five tallies in the club's win over Concordia. Freshman goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) compiled 21 saves over the two contests.
Next, Brown plays two games tomorrow in Whittier, Calif., with games against Occidental College (3:00 p.m. ET) and host Whittier College (7:30 p.m. ET).
Game 1 – No. 12 Loyola Marymount 10, Brown 6
Senior Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, Calif.) and Crowley each scored two goals as Brown fell to No. 12 Loyola Marymount, 10-6, in its third game at the LMU Invitational.
Senior Emily Klein (Pleasanton, Calif.) and sophomore Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) each added one goal for the Bears. Dakan made 13 saves.
Kolokotronis posted team bests with three steals and four ejections drawn while Crowley and junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) each tallied an assist and two steals.
Both defenses performed well in the first quarter with neither team scoring a goal in the first 6:39. Klein posted the game's first goal with 1:21 to play in the stanza before LMU answered with eight seconds to go in the quarter.
The Lions netted four straight goals in the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead with 11 seconds to play before halftime. Crowley scored as time expired in the period to pull the Bears within 5-2 at the half.
LMU notched the second half's first two goals before Rosen scored with 3:01 to play in the third frame, cutting Brown's deficit to 7-3. The Lions took an 8-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
After falling behind 10-3, the Bears scored the contest's final three goals. Rosen found the back of the net with 3:24 to play, Crowley scored with 3:00 to go, and Kolokotronis tallied a goal with 2:33 left.

Game 2 – Brown 14, Concordia 8
Crowley scored a game-high five goals to propel Brown past Concordia, 14-8, in its fourth and final game at the LMU Invitational.
Kolokotronis scored three goals, junior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) netted two, and Rosen, juniors Dodd and Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.), and freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), each posted a single tally.
Dakan totaled eight saves in the contest while freshman net-minder Imani Herring (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned aside two shots in the fourth quarter.
Dodd dished out a team-high three assists, Crowley made five steals, Rosen tallied four steals, and Kolokotronis charted two assists and two ejections drawn.
The Bears opened the game with a 3-0 lead after the first quarter as Crowley logged a hat trick just 3:24 into the contest while Dakan and the team's defense blanked the Eagles in the opening period.
After Concordia scored a goal to open the second stanza, Brown rattled off another 3-0 run to take a 6-1 lead with 4:46 to play in the half. Kolokotronis, Heilman, and Dodd notched the Bears' goals in order.
Kolokotronis charted her second goal of the period with 1:07 left in the quarter to give Brown a 7-2 lead at halftime.
Rosen, Kolokotronis, and Crowley each scored goals mixed in with a pair of markers from the Eagles to push Brown's edge to 10-4 through three quarters.
Each team found the back of the net four times in the fourth with Santiago netting both of her goals and Pierotti and Crowley each scoring once.
