PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's soccer team honored its 2014 award winners at the team's annual banquet last week at the Brown Faculty Club.
The seven freshmen from the class of 2018 and seven seniors from the class of 2015 received their letter sweaters, while the Ridgely MVP, Margeson Team Spirit, Sarah Nicholson, Denis Chartier, and Dobson-Kay Coaches' awards were also presented.
The Ridgely MVP Award, in honor of Professor and Mrs. Beverly Ridgely, is presented annually to the team's most valuable player as voted by the team. Junior Charlotte Beach (New Haven, Conn.) claimed the award after posting two assists and earning Honorable All-Ivy honors for her stellar play at midfield last season. Beach and freshman Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) were both recognized with the Dobson-Kay Coaches' Award, an award given by the coaching staff for outstanding contribution, dedication, and sportsmanship.
The Sarah Nicholson Memorial Award, given annually to the senior(s) who, through total dedication and loyalty, has given the most of themselves for the good for the team, goes to the duo of Chloe Cross (Seattle, Wash.) and Allie Reilly (Lawrenceville, N.J.). Reilly deposited a goal and three assists in 17 starts as a senior for the Bears in 2014. Cross also claims the Denis Chartier Memorial Award for the third consecutive season as the team's leading scorer. The award is in memory of former assistant coach, Denis Chartier, who passed away at the age of 56 after 15 dedicated seasons with the Brown women's soccer program. Cross paced the Bears in 2014 with six goals and an assist in 14 games.
Erin Katz (Montgomery, Ala.) took home the Margeson Team Spirit Award, an accolade given to the player who exhibits the most team spirit as voted on by the team. Katz finished in a three-way tie for second on the team with three goals in 2014.
Seniors Kirsten Belinsky (Los Altos, Calif.), Jenn Casey (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Briel Crespi (Berkley, Mass.), Chloe Cross, Anastasia Gillen (San Clemente, Calif.), Allie Reilly, and Mallory Yant (Fenton, Mo.) earned their four-year white letter sweaters.
Freshmen Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.), Annaly Ferrell (Tulsa, Okla.), Maclaine Lehan, Katy Schmidt (Corvallis, Ore.), Annie Sherman (Phoenix, Ariz.), Rylee Shumway (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) all earned first-year brown letter sweaters.
