
Women's Water Polo Beats Iona, 10-9, Falls to Wagner, 16-8

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Liz Rosen scored seven goals over two games to help Brown University women's water polo beat Iona College, 10-9, in the morning before falling to Wagner College, 16-8, at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday at the Princeton Invitational.
The Bears (1-2) dealt the Gaels (3-1) their first loss of the season as junior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.) tallied the game-winning goal with 2:17 to play. Rosen (San Anselmo, Calif.) netted a team-high four goals in the team's setback to the Seahawks (3-1) in the evening.
Over the two games, sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) recorded four goals, and freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted three goals.
Next, Brown plays Harvard in the Ivy Championship at Princeton on Feb. 22 at 9 a.m.
Match 1 – Brown 10, Iona 9
Pierotti scored the game-winning goal with 2:17 to play to give Brown a 10-9 victory over Iona in the team's first game in the Princeton Invitational.
The Bears held an 8-6 lead entering the fourth quarter, and Rosen put Brown up 9-6 two minutes into the period as she sent a shot from straight on into the top right corner of the goal from well outside the 5-meter mark.
The Gaels then used a 3-0 spurt to tie the game at 9-9 with 2:33 remaining. Brown responded 16 seconds later as Pierotti floated a shot from the right wing into the left side of the goal to give the Bears their 10-9 edge.
Rosen led the Bears with three goals to go with three assists and six steals. Crowleytotaled two goals, two assists, and five steals, and sophomore Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) made a team-best seven steals. Junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) scored two goals, and Heilman added three steals.
Freshman goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) turned aside 11 shots in the win.
The Bears held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a one-goal, 6-5, edge at halftime. Brown outscored Iona 2-1 in the third quarter to pull ahead, 8-6, entering the final frame.

Match 2 – Wagner 16, Brown 8
Crowley netted a team-high four goals, but Brown dropped a 16-8 decision to Wagner in its second and final game at the Princeton Invitational in the evening.
Rosen scored Brown's first goal of the game pulling the Bears within 2-1 at the 5:29 mark of the first quarter. Heilman kept Brown within a goal just over a minute later at 3-2 midway through the period.
Just prior to the end of the first quarter, Rosen registered her second goal of the game to cut the Bears' deficit to 5-3 heading into the first break.
The Seahawks recorded three straight goals to start the second stanza before Rosen scored her third goal at the 1:31 mark to bring Brown within 8-4. Crowley scored inside of the last minute to help Brown remain within 9-5 at halftime.
Wagner outscored Brown 4-1 in the third quarter despite Rosen's fourth goal, which cut the margin to 10-6 with six minutes to go in the frame.
Heilman tallied Brown's first goal of the fourth quarter midway through the frame, and Crowley recorded the team's final goal of the contest with 90 seconds remaining.
