
Women's Water Polo Sweeps Day, Defeats Gannon, Mercyhurst

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Brown University women's water polo swept its competition on Saturday, beating Gannon University, 14-5, and defeating Mercyhurst University, 16-7, at the Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.
In the team's first game of the day, the Bears (4-3, 1-0 CWPA) jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to the win over the Golden Knights (0-5). Brown followed that with a victory over the Lakers (2-4, 0-2 CWPA) in the squad's Collegiate Water Polo Association opener.
Sophomore Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) led the Bears with eight goals between the two contests while classmate Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) supported her with seven goals of her own on the day.
Next, Brown plays the host Bison tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Match 1 – Brown 14, Gannon 5
Crowley netted a game-high four goals as Brown defeated Gannon, 14-5, in its first game of the day on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held a 9-3 advantage at halftime on their way to the victory.
Five different Bears – junior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.), freshman Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), senior Emily Klein (Pleasanton, Calif.), Kolokotronis, and junior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) – each scored two goals.
Crowley recorded four assists and a steal, Dodd posted two assists and two steals, and Heilman totaled four steals and four ejections drawn. Kolokotronis added three steals, and Santiago drew three ejections.
In goal, freshman Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made five saves, and classmate Imani Herring (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned aside three shots.
Crowley posted the game's first goal less than 30 seconds into the contest, and Dodd pushed the team's lead to 2-0 at the 6:36 mark. In order, Kolokotronis, Crowley, and Santiago registered the remainder of the Bears' goal in the quarter. Gannon posted its first goal with 30 seconds to go in the period.
Klein and Kolokotronis logged the second stanza's first two goals to stretch Brown's lead to 7-1. The two teams traded goals over the rest of the half with Crowley and Klein tallying goals for the Bears.
Brown captured an 11-4 edge after three quarters as Santiago and Dodd notched goals. In the fourth quarter, Heilman compiled two goals, and Crowley scored another.

Match 2 – Brown 16, Mercyhurst 7
Kolokotronis scored five goals while Crowley and Heilman each netted four tallies to help Brown upend Mercyhurst, 16-7, in the team's CWPA opener.
Santiago, junior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.), and senior Rebecca Zak (Carlsbad, Calif.) each recorded a single goal for the Bears who claimed a 10-1 lead at halftime.
Crowley tallied four steals and an assist while Dodd registered five steals and three ejections drawn. Klein posted three assists, Kolokotronis made three steals, and Santiago charted three ejections drawn, two steals, and two assists.
Dakan stopped four shots in goal.
Brown opened the game with a 4-0 advantage with 2:31 to play in the first quarter as Crowley and Kolokotronis each deposited two goals. After a Mercyhurst goal, Heilman answered to give Brown a 5-1 edge after the first period.
Kolokotronis and Crowley posted goals to start the second stanza before Pierotti and Santiago each placed a shot into the back of the net. Crowley netted her fourth goal of the game with 18 seconds left in the half to push Brown's edge to 10-1.
Each team scored four goals in the third frame with Kolokotronis and Heilman registering two goals apiece. Zak and Heilman recorded the club's fourth quarter markers.
