OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior Jack Gorab (Newport Beach, Calif.) of the Brown men's soccer team was named a Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American, announced Thursday.
Gorab was named one of 10 national finalists for the award back in October. The award for men's soccer is chosen by a vote of Division I men's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans and is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I men's soccer.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete in 10 NCAA sports and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
A dedicated student-athlete, Gorab currently holds a 3.72 grade-point average and is expected to graduate in May of 2016 with a degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations: Business Economics. Gorab was recognized as an Academic All-Ivy honoree as a junior.
Gorab has been involved in numerous activities throughout the Brown and Providence communities over the past four years, highlighted by several leadership positions. He started the Brown University Chapter at Best Buddies, which is a program that pairs people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in one-to-one friendships with college students.
A team co-captain, Gorab started all 17 games this past fall and was named Honorable Mention All-Ivy for his efforts. He tied for the team lead with three assists and added two goals for seven points. He finished his four-year career with 27 points in 68 games played.
