
Women's Hockey Defeated by Dartmouth, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Dartmouth, 4-0, in ECAC action on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. Brown's defense held tight in the first period, producing a 0-0 result going into the first intermission. Dartmouth opened the scoring in the following period, recording three of its four goals in the stanza en route to its win.
The first period ended scoreless as junior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) fended off 13 Dartmouth (2-1-1, 2-1-1 Ivy League) shots to keep a clean slate in the period. Senior Kelly Micholson (Elk Grove, Ill.) and freshman Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) both registered two shots on goal in the period. The Dartmouth penalty kill warded off the lone penalty in the stanza.
Sophomore Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) had a chance to give Brown (0-5-0, 0-3-0 Ivy League) a lead around the 10:55 mark in the second, but her shot was saved by Dartmouth's Robyn Chamago close range. The Big Green quickly countered and moved the puck up ice in a hurry and recorded the first goal of the game at 11:07, giving Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. Kennedy Ottenbreit scored the first tally with Lindsey Allen collecting the assist.
Dartmouth added two more goals in the second, in a power-play goal by Laura Stacey (11:07) and a breakaway goal by Alyssa Baker (17:30). Elvin made nine saves in the period for Brown while Chamago stopped 11 shots for Dartmouth.
Stacey added her second goal of the game at 13:56 in the third to close out the game's scoring. Brown had four power play opportunities in the final period, bringing its game total to five. The Bears were disciplined and were only penalized twice in the game.
Freshman Cara Najjar (Stoneham, Mass.) ended the night as Brown's leading faceoff specialist, registering 11 wins on the night.
Brown recorded its most shots on goal of the season, with 22, eight of them from Carey.
For the contest, Elvin came away with a season-high 34 saves while Chemago stopped 22 shots.
The Bears return to action tomorrow (Nov. 7) for a 4:00 p.m. game against No. 9/9 Harvard at Meehan Auditorium.
