LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) scored the game-tying goal in the 65th minute and netted the game winner in the 105th minute as Brown came back to defeat Cornell in double overtime, 3-2, on Oct. 24 at Berman Field in Ithaca, N.Y.
The Bears rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge the host Big Red – a side, which had allowed just three goals in their first 14 matches. Brown became just the second team this season, alongside Harvard, to score a goal against Cornell in the run of play. Junior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) started the Bears' rally with a goal in the 63rd minute, and Story equalized less than two minutes later.
THE CLASS OF 2016
Prior to their game against the Quakers, the Bears will honor the six members of the team's Class of 2016 – Charlotte Beach (New Haven, Conn.), Jillian DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.), Michelle Jolson (Wyoming, Ohio), Erin Katz (Montgomery, Ala.), captain Sarah Moody (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), and Hogan Vivier (Cumberland, R.I.). Combined, the group has accounted for 280 games played and 164 games started.
WELCOME TO STEVENSON-PINCINCE FIELD
Brown University has announced that it will rename its soccer/lacrosse facility Stevenson-Pincince Field in recognition of the outstanding contributions to the growth and development of women's soccer at Brown and on a national level by 39-year head women's soccer coach Phil Pincince.
In 1979, Brown dedicated its soccer and lacrosse field as Stevenson Field in honor of longtime men's soccer and men's lacrosse head coach Cliff Stevenson. On Saturday, Brown will stage its first contest on Stevenson-Pincince Field when the women's soccer team hosts Penn at 3:30 p.m. in Pincince's final home game as the leader of the Bears.
PREVIOUS FIXTURES
Brown and Penn have played another evenly over their previous 28 meetings, with the Bears holding a slight 13-12-3 edge in the all-time series. The Quakers have gained a 5-0-1 advantage in the last six meetings between the two sides.
The Bears last defeated Penn in 2008 with a 1-0 overtime win. That season also saw Brown beat No. 11 Penn State in overtime, 1-0, and earn a draw with No. 1 UCLA, 0-0, over the weekend of Sept. 12-14.
AND IN GOAL
Freshman goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) ranks second in the Ivy League in total saves (65) and stands third in the conference in save percentage (.823). She has posted three shutouts on the season and garnered Ivy Co-Rookie of the Week accolades on Sept. 28 after she notched a clean sheet in Brown's league opener against Dartmouth.
ON THE ATTACK
Junior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) leads the Brown offense in points (12), goals (five), shots (37), and shots on goal (17) on the season. The 5-foot-11 midfielder scored a hat trick against Marist on Oct. 12, leading the Bears to a 4-0 win.
Freshman Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) ranks second on the team with eight points and tied for second with three goals. She earned Ivy League Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week this past week after scoring a pair of goals in Brown's 3-2, double-overtime victory over Cornell on Oct. 24.
Seniors Jillian DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) and Erin Katz (Montgomery, Ala.) have each posted seven points on the season, tying for third on the squad. DeSimone has tallied two goals and three assists while Katz has notched three goals and an assist, scoring all three of her goals in a 3-2 overtime win over Sacred Heart on Sept. 23.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn carries a 6-3-5 overall record and a 1-1-3 Ivy League mark into the weekend, coming off a 2-1 home win over Yale on Oct. 24. The Quakers have charted a 2-0-2 mark in their last four outings and have registered six shutouts as a team on the season.
Sasha Stephens paces the Quakers on the attack with 11 points on four goals and three assists while Paige Lombard has added three goals. Minding the penalty area, Carrie Crook has logged a 0.65 goals-against average, a .806 save percentage, and four clean sheets.
