PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's swimming and diving team fell to Harvard and Penn in dual meet action on Saturday in the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Bears were outlasted by Harvard, 237-63, and Penn, 203-95.
Brown drops to 1-3 in Ivy competition this season after splitting dual meets against Princeton and Dartmouth at the Brown Invite last month.
"The men had a solid meet for the first competition of the 2015 season," said Head Coach Chris Ip. "What I like seeing was the quick learning curve and adjustments they made from the first half of the meet to the second half."
Despite the setbacks, the Bears still boasted notable performances.
"Freshman Willy Lee, Brandan Woo, and Riley Springman showed some spark in their events. Cory Mayfield and Daniel Klotz held guard for the upperclassman and our divers, led by Jonathon Schlafer, had solid results while raising the degree of difficulty on their lists," said Ip.
Brown's top finish of the day came in the 1-meter diving event where Jonathon Schlafer (Uniontown, Ohio) nabbed a second place finish after posting 307.60 points.
The aforementioned Lee placed third in the 100 Back with a mark of 51.15, while Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.) also boasted a third place finish in the 50 Free (20.83).
Other notable performances included Cory Mayfield's (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) two fourth place finishes in both the 500 and 1,000 Free events.
The Bears return to action next Saturday for a dual meet at Columbia beginning at 4 p.m.
