LUDLOW, Vt. – The Brown skiing team opened the 2015 campaign in resounding fashion at Okemo Mountain this weekend, extending their ECSC MacConnell Division winning streak to 32 races after giant slalom and slalom titles at the UConn Carnival.
Sophomore Natalie Pearl (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) carried over momentum from her stellar freshman year, leading the entire field in both giant slalom and slalom events this weekend. Pearl (1:18.97) and teammate Ali Gunesch (1:19.13), finished first and second in the event to pace the Bears over Clarkson and Castleton State, who finished second and third respectively.
A trio of Bears claimed top-four finishes in the slalom event the following afternoon, with Pearl (1:29.69), Amanda Engelhardt (1:32.77), and Gunesch (1:33.29) putting forth solid performances. Brown's team time of 6:11.59 boasted a near 20-second gap ahead of second place Clarkson in the event (6:30.07).
Freshman Lauren Stobierski made her collegiate debut, earning an eighth place finish in the slalom event with a mark of 1:35.84.
The Bears return to action next weekend with two contests, a giant slalom competition on Friday at Mount Sunapee and slalom action at Blackwater Ski Area on Saturday.
