Men's Hockey Picked Seventh in ECAC Preseason Polls, Naclerio Named to Preseason All-Conference Team

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Brown University men's ice hockey team was picked to finish seventh in both the 2014-15 ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches and Media Association Polls, announced Tuesday at ECAC Hockey's Media Day Teleconference.

The Bears tallied 61 points and 162 points in the coaches and media polls, respectively, to place seventh in both preseason polls after finishing 11-17-3 overall and 8-13-1 in the league last season. The Bears welcome back over 75 percent of the point production from last year's squad, including the top three scorers in juniors Mark Naclerio and Nick Lappin, and senior Matt Lorito, who combined for 96 points last winter. In addition to 18 returnees, the Bears will add ten incoming freshmen to fill out the squad. With another tough slate in 2014-15, the Bears will play ten contests against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament, including the last two National Champions and a home-and-home series against crosstown rival Providence College.

In the ECAC Coaches poll, Colgate was selected to finish first with 117 total points and seven first-place votes. Union, the defending national champion, was tabbed second with four first-place votes and 103 total votes. Cornell (90) was picked third, followed by Yale, Quinnipiac and Dartmouth. After Brown, Clarkson (58), Harvard (50), Rensselaer (42), St. Lawrence (24) and Princeton (11) rounded out the poll.

Colgate also topped the media poll with 18 first-place votes and 336 total votes, while Union and Quinnipiac were picked second and third, respectively.

In addition, Naclerio was named the ECAC Hockey Media Association's preseason all-conference team. Naclerio, who will serve as a co-captain this season, is coming off a standout sophomore campaign after he led the team with 16 goals and 35 points. He also paced the Bears with four game-winning tallies and tied for first with 19 assists, chipping in with three power-play goals. He ranked fourth in the ECAC with 1.13 points per game and logged nine multiple-point contests during the season.

The Bears open their season on Friday, October 31 when they visit Army at 7 p.m.
