AMHERST, Mass. – The Brown women's swimming and diving team won its second dual meet in as many days with a narrow 151-149 triumph over Joseph R. Rogers Jr. pool on Saturday.
The Bears improve to 2-0 in dual meets this season, while the Minutewomen drop to 2-2.
"I gained invaluable information today about how individuals, and the team as a whole, respond when in a "need to" situation," said Head Coach Kate Kovenock. "After DQ'ing the first relay on a 15M violation we were in a big hole score-wise very early on. Our women stepped up to the challenge today and remained calm. We had two freshmen win individual events and our 100 Butterflyers - Kate Dillione, Caroline Vexler, and Maggie Jordan stepped up right when we needed them to."
Senior Kate Dillione continued her early season success with a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle, outlasted UMass' Zoe Judd by over three seconds (1:49.97). Dillione ended the day involved in five total Joseph R. Rogers Jr. pool records. Freshman Aja Grande (Honolulu, Hawaii) also continued her success in 2014 with a win in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:06.39).
Caroline Vexler (Moreland Hills, Ohio) and Gina Matsumoto (Farmington Hills, Mich.) secured the top-two positions in the 200 Yard Butterfly event with times of 2:06.93 and 2:08.40 respectively.
Dillione (50 Free) and Grande (100 Free) each struck again with wins before freshman Natsumi Horikawa (Rockville, Md.) posted her first collegiate win in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:08.19.
Dillione, Vexler, and Maggie Jordan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each placed one, two, and three respectively in the 100 Yard Butterfly. The Bears concluded their strong day with a win in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay thanks to performances by Dillione, Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.), Korbyn Simpson (Baltimore, Md.), and Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.).
Brown returns to action on December 5 as they play host to the Brown Invite held at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
