Brown Team Tops White Team, 16-12, in Intra-Squad Wrestle-Offs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Ophir Bernstein recorded a fall at 184 lbs. to lead the Brown Team past the White Team, 16-12, in Brown University wrestling's season-opening, intra-squad Brown & White Wrestle-Offs in the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday night.
"I was very pleased with the wrestle-offs tonight. We had a great atmosphere with our fans, but it is always tough to wrestle your teammate in competition," head coach Todd Beckerman said. "This was a great test to prepare for the ESU Open this weekend."
Bernstein (Allen, Texas) pinned sophomore James Corbett (Wantagh, N.Y.) to pick up six points for the Brown Team.
Freshman Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) won his bout at 133 lbs. over senior Daniel Flowers (Dexter, Mich.) by major decision, 16-4, while sophomore William McDonald (Carson City, Nev.), classmate L.J. Remillard (Honolulu, Hawaii), and freshman Michael Russo (Jersey City, Nev.) each picked up wins by decision for the victors.
For the White Team, senior Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) garnered a win through technical fall in a 174/184 lbs. exhibition tilt. Junior Anthony Finocchiaro (Canastota, N.Y.) gained a major decision victory, and sophomore Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.) also won to round out the side's scoring.
Next, Brown begins the intercollegiate portion of its schedule with the East Stroudsburg Open on Nov. 16.
