
Women's Hockey Hosts Maine for Pair of Matinee Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's ice hockey hosts the University of Maine for a pair of afternoon non-conference games this weekend at Meehan Auditorium with a contest on Friday at 3 p.m. and a second match-up on Saturday at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Kaitlyn Keon and junior Kelly Micholson each scored as part of a third-period rally, but Brown fell at the University of Connecticut, 4-2, at the Freitas Ice Forum on Tuesday night.
The Bears notched the third period's first two goals to pull within 3-2, but the host Huskies netted a goal later in the frame and held on for the win.
Keon (Toronto, Ontario) recorded the Bears' first goal of the game 27 seconds into the third on a penalty shot after Connecticut's Sarah MacDonnell picked up a penalty for interference. The goal marked Keon's second of the season and the eighth of her career.
Micholson (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) brought the Bears within one goal at 3-2 as she registered a goal off an assist from sophomore Maddie Woo (Plymouth, Minn.) at the 5:16 mark of the third frame for her first strike of the season and the third of her career.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine enters the weekend with a 4-5-2 overall record and a 3-1-1 mark in Hockey East play, coming off a 1-0 win over Northeastern on Nov. 1.
Morgan Sakundiak leads the team with five points on five assists while Kelsy MacSorley and Audra Richards have each posted a team-high three goals.
Primary goaltender Meghann Treacy has recorded a .939 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average in nine starts.
As a team, the Black Bears have killed 33 of 35 penalties (.943 percent) in 2014-15.
LAST SEASON'S SERIES
Brown registered a tie and a loss against Maine in a series in Orono, Maine, from Dec. 6-7 last season.
The Bears earned a 3-3 tie on Dec. 7 behind goals from Janice Yang, Jennifer Nedow, and Catherine LeBoeuf. Monica Elvin made 23 saves and did not allow a goal in 30:58 in the draw. Brown suffered a 2-1 setback on the previous night despite a tally from Erin Conway.
KEEPING THE LAMP LIT VS. THE SAINTS
With seven goals against St. Lawrence on Nov. 1, Brown scored its most goals in a game since winning at Sacred Heart, 10-0, on Dec. 7, 2011. With its five-goal third period, the team scored five goals in a period for the first time since notching five tallies in the first period of a 10-1 win at Quinnipiac on Nov. 18, 2003.
Against the Saints, the Bears netted five goals in a 12:01 span in the third period with four different Bears scoring during the run. Freshman Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) recorded two goals during the streak, putting Brown up 4-3 and 5-3. Junior Ariana Rucker (Oakton, Va.) registered a tally 14 seconds after Donovan's game-winner. Senior Janice Yang (Westport, Conn.) paced Brown with four points on a goal and three assists in the contest.
TOP SCORERS
Seniors Kaitlyn Keon and Janice Yang share the team lead with five points apiece as Keon has compiled two goals and three assists, and Yang has totaled a goal and four helpers.
Sam Donovan has netted a team-best three goals and chipped in an assist while seniors Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.) and Lauren Vella (Staten Island, N.Y.) have each tallied two goals and an assist.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) has posted a 3.23 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in 241:45 of action this season. She has made at least 26 saves in each of her three starts and turned aside 23 shots while allowing one goal in two periods of work against defending national champion Clarkson.

After this weekend's set with the Black Bears, Brown returns to ECAC play next weekend with a game at Cornell on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. and a contest at Colgate on Nov. 15 at 3 p.m.
