Men's Hockey Ousted at Dartmouth, 6-0

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth scored a trio of goals in the opening period to set the tone early as the Brown men's hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Big Green in Saturday evening's ECAC contest at Thompson Arena.
Brown drops to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the ECAC, while the Big Green improve to 2-2-1 overall and in the conference.
Despite a pair of early Dartmouth penalties, Brad Schierhorn gave the Big Green an early lead when he scored the first goal of the game at 7:25, just a few seconds after Tim O'Brien came out of the box to put the home side in front, 1-0.
Dartmouth added a second goal at 12:57, when Ryan Bullock scored five seconds into the team's first power play of the night on a shot from in front of the blue line to give the Big Green a two-goal advantage.
The Big Green notched a third goal late on the opening period as Grant Opperman scored on a feed from Eric Neiley at 18:29 for the three-goal lead at the first intermission. The two teams were even in shots, 11-11, during the first stanza.
Brown opened the second period with more pressure in the offensive zone, but Dartmouth goalie James Kruger kept the Bears at bay and off the scoreboard. Dartmouth tacked on another power-play goal at 11:18, when Eric Neily sent a pass in front of the net to Jack Barre, who knocked home the one timer to pad the lead, 4-0.
Dartmouth added two more goals in the third period, as Eric Robinson and Opperman both scored within an 11-second span, pushing the Big Green in front by six goals to secure the victory.
Kruger made 22 saves in net for the Big Green to earn the shutout. Sophomore Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario) made five saves in the loss, before giving way to fellow sophomore Tyler Steel (Vernon, British Columbia), who recorded 37 stops. Rookie Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) led the Bears with four shots.
Brown continues its four-game road stretch with a pair of ECAC contests next weekend when they visit Colgate (11/21) and Cornell (11/22).
