Providence, Rhode Island – Brown head men's basketball coach Jesse Agel has put together a 31-game men's basketball schedule that includes a school record 15 home games. The Bears will play 14 Ivy League games with five of their first six league games at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Highlighting the non-league schedule are games in the NIT Season Tip-Off at Syracuse, a BIG EAST match-up at Providence College, a Big Ten contest at Iowa, and a home game against interstate rival Rhode Island.
"Our out-of-conference schedule will be a tremendous precursor to what promises to be a very competitive Ivy League," said Agel. "It's an honor for us to be invited to play in the most prestigious preseason basketball tournament in the country, the NIT Season Tip-Off, that will kick-off a balanced and challenging non-conference slate."
Brown opens its school record 15-game home schedule against Johnson & Wales on November 11, as a forerunner to the NIT Season Tip-Off, November 14-15 in the Syracuse Carrier Dome. The Bears are guaranteed four games in the NIT Preseason Tip-Off with additional dates the following week. The NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals and finals will be held at Madison Square Garden on November 23 and 25. In addition to Syracuse, other possible NIT Season Tip-off opponents include George Mason, Virginia Tech, Stanford and Oklahoma
The Bears' eight-game non-league home schedule also includes games against Hartford (11/19), Rhode Island (11/30), New Hampshire (12/7), Central Connecticut (12/10), Maine (12/23), American (1/2) and Longwood (1/11).
Brown also makes non-league appearances on the road against Sacred Heart (11/27), Iowa (12/3), Providence (12/5) and St. Francis-NY (12/29) and Bryant (1/23).
Agel's squad tips-off its Ivy League schedule with a home-and-home match-up with Yale, traveling to New Haven, CT to face the Elis on January 14, and returning home a week later to host Yale on January 21. The Bears will also host Dartmouth (1/27), Harvard (1/28), Princeton (2/3), Penn (2/4), Cornell (2/24) and Columbia (2/25).
