Lake Carnegie, N.J. – Brown traveled to Princeton on Saturday afternoon and despite some very close races, the day proved to the Tigers overall. The Bears' third varsity was victorious by more than 13 seconds but, the varsity eight, second varsity and freshmen boats were all edged by Princeton.
"It was good hard racing by both crews," said head coach Paul Cooke. "Our guys rowed a good, hard-fought race and showed they can stay in the race with a tough opponent."
In the 3V8, the Bears pulled away from the Tigers 700 meters into the race and did not relinquish the lead. Brown's fourth varsity also competed in the race and finished third.
The Princeton freshmen proved to be a strong crew and pulled out to an open water lead in the middle of the race. The Tigers' JV was also quick off the line and established a length lead in the middle of the race. The Bears put forth a good performance in the second half but couldn't make up much ground and fell by a length.
In the varsity eight, Brown and Princeton went off the line together. Princeton held a one and a half seat lead at the 500-meter mark and then made a big push in the second quarter to establish a three-quarter length lead. Once again, the Bears did a good job to keep the pressure on, but could not make up the ground, being edged by the standing margin.
