Brown Men's Squash Places 12th Nationally At Hoehn Cup

The Brown men's squash team completed play at the Hoehn Cup National Championship held at Harvard and finished 12^th nationally. A 5-4 win against St. Lawrence in a thrilling first round match ensured the Bears of their best place National finish since 2006.

In the key win over St. Lawrence, the Bears held a 4-2 lead in matches after wins by freshman Tod Holberton #9, sophomore Alex Hsu #8, sophomore Eamon O'Connor #6 and # 2 junior Brad Thompson, but trailed, 2-1, in three remaining matches.

Both senior Adrian Leanza #1 and junior Tucker Bryan #7 were able to get back to 2-2 in their matches but could not get the fifth game. All eyes descended on sophomore Chris Holter at #4. He managed to win the fourth game to get the match to a nail biting fifth game.

Chris started badly and was down 2-6. He kept his nerve and at 8-8 managed to slowly pull ahead and thrill the Brown supporters with an 11-8 win to seal the top 12 finish in the nation.

Next up Western Ontario at Harvard at Noon Saturday. The men's squash team fell, 8-1, to Western Ontario in a well contested semifinal.

The lone winner was freshman Blake Reinson at #3 who won in five in a fine match that lasted well over and hour. There were other valiant efforts by Holter at #4,senior Ben Clayman at #5, Eamon O'Connor and Alex Hsu who all lost in 5 games pushing their opponents to their limits.

The Bears dropped their final match to Williams by an 8-1 margin with Reinson again earning the lone win for the Bears.
