Men's Cross Country Earns Fourth at Ivy League Heptagonal Championships; Lowry & Duffy Earn First Team All-Ivy Honors

Princeton, NJ- Led by a fourth place finish by senior Dan Lowry, the Brown University men's cross country team finished in fourth place at the 2011 Ivy League Cross Country Championships hosted at Princeton University this afternoon. Lowry posted a 24:58.3 on the 8,000m course to earn First Team All-Ivy honors to help the Bears combined for 91 total points.

"The team competed very well," said Head Men's Cross Country Coach Tim Springfield. "Dan Lowry and Matt Duffy did a fantastic job leading the team and I was very happy that they finished their Heps cross country careers by earning All-Ivy designation. I was also extremely pleased with the depth we showed in our back positions. It was nice to see Brendan Boyle step up as our fifth runner. We've come a long way in a year."

Princeton claimed the team title with a total of 37 points, followed by Columbia (51), Dartmouth (79) in third, Cornell (125) in fifth, Yale (162) in sixth, Harvard (184) in seventh and Penn (233) in eighth.

Finishing right behind Lowry was senior captain Matt Duffy in sixth with a 25:10.6, who also earned First Team All-Ivy honors, and senior Nathan Chellman crossed the finish line in 25:34.7 to place 23rd. Junior Austin Snyder ran a 25:35.3 for 25^th, and coming in 33^rd was sophomore Brendan Boyle with a 25:47.2 to round out the scorers for the Bears.

Also running for Bruno today was junior Erik Berg (35^th), who ran a 25:48.0, and junior Conor Grogan (37^th) posted a 25:49.2.

"The conditions were extraordinarily raw today, probably the most unpleasant I've ever seen ... but I don't think the weather played a significant role in the outcome," added Springfield. "Our athletes just went out and competed as normal."
