PRINCETON, N.J. — With Day One complete at the 75th Outdoor Heps Championship, all is in place for a crazy Sunday at Weaver Track & Field Stadium. Brown trails Princeton by a narrow two-and-a-half points heading into the final day of competition.
Brown junior Brynn Smith had a record-shattering performance in the hammer, breaking an eight-year-old League and meet record with a toss of 60.85 (199-8). The old record was held by Nicky Grant of Harvard, whose 195-6 at Heps in 2002 had stood as the all-time Ivy best as well. Princeton junior Emma Ruggiero, who was second with a heave of 193-0, now joins Smith and Grant as the only 190-foot throwers in meet history.
Junior Lauren Pischel placed second in the 10,000 meters in 35:19.76, while senior Katherine Wood placed third in the javelin with a throw of 40.12 meters.
The final Day One point totals for the women's after five events are:
1. Princeton, 41.5 2. Brown, 39 3. Cornell, 35.5 4. Penn, 15 5. Columbia, 12 6. Harvard, 12 7. Dartmouth, 0 8. Yale, 0
