
Water Polo Goes 1-1 After First Day of CWPA Elite Eight

Bloomington, IN- After having its offense shut down by No. 18
Indiana, falling 9-1, the No. 17 Brown women's water polo
team rebounded with a 12-7 victory against Bucknell to go 1-1 after
the first day of competition at the CWPA Elite Eight Championship.
Senior Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA) once again netted three goals to
lead the Bears' offense this afternoon, while senior
goalkeeper Stephanie Laing picked up 20 saves to hold down the
defense.
“I was worried about our offense after the first game, but
we were able to get into a rhythm against Bucknell,” said
Head Coach Felix Mercado. “I think we learned a lot about
ourselves today and we need to take the next two weeks to fix some
problems.”
Against the Bison, the Bears gained a 3-1 lead after the first
eight minutes of play, and extended it to a 5-3 advantage heading
into halftime. The Bears came up with four goals in the third to
take a 9-6 lead and then outscored Bucknell 3-0 in the fourth to
earn a 12-7 win.
Along with three goals, Glick also added four assists and one
ejection drawn. Junior Joanna Wohlmuth (Manhattan Beach, CA)
contributed on both ends of the pool with two goals, five ejections
drawn and three steals. Laing picked up 12 saves in net to lead the
defense.
Against Indiana, the Hoosiers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the
first two quarters of play. Then, Indiana went out to score two
more goals in the third and then in the fourth, to earn the 9-1
win.
Lauren Presant (Poway, CA) tallied the only goal for the Bears,
while Laing picked up seven saves in net.
