Bloomington, IN- The 20th-ranked Princeton University
women's water polo team outscored the No. 17 Bears 4-1 in the
first quarter and went on to earn a 7-5 victory during the CWPA
Elite Eight Championship on Sunday afternoon. Leading Brown's
offense was senior Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA) with three goals, while
senior goalkeeper Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) tallied 10 saves
in net.
The Tigers roared to a 4-1 first quarter lead, but the feisty
Bears fought back and outscored Princeton 4-3 in the final two
quarters. But Brown's efforts weren't enough, as the
Bears fell 7-5.
“After that first quarter I was worried if we were going to
be able to come back,” said Head Coach Felix Mercado.
“These ladies showed heart to battle back but it wasn't
our day today. It's hard to play the same team three weeks in
a row.”
Glick tallied a team-high three goals, while junior Joanna Wohlmuth (Manhattan Beach, CA) and senior Lauren Presant (Poway,
CA) each added one. Freshman Claudia Ruiz (Sacramento, CA) also had
a strong performance for the Bears as she handed out two assists
during the loss.
