
Brown Wraps-Up 2009-2010 Season At Home vs. Cornell and Columbia

Providence, RI - Brown will wrap-up its 2009-2010 season at home
this weekend, hosting first place Cornell and Columbia at the
Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday and Saturday, March 5 & 6.
The Bears, winners of four of its last six games, will look to fend
off Cornell's (25-4, 11-1 Ivy) bid to be the first team to
qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Brown seniors Steve Gruber and
Matt Mullery will wrap-up their collegiate playing careers on
Saturday, and will be honored in ceremonies prior to the
Bears' game against Columbia (10-16, 4-8 Ivy).
The Bears (11-18, 5-7 Ivy) are coming off a weekend split on the
road with Harvard and Dartmouth, losing to the Crimson, 91-71, and
coming back to beat the Big Green, 76-57. Currently in a tie for
fourth place in the Ivy League standings, Brown finished with a
winning 4-3 Ivy League record on the road, with victories over
Yale, Penn, Princeton and Dartmouth.
Junior forward Peter Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) scored 18 points last
Friday evening against Harvard to become the 24th player in Brown
basketball history to score 1,000 or more career points. His 1,008
points rank 24th on Brown's all-time scoring list.
Brown tied the school record for games played with its 29th game
against Dartmouth, equaling the school record for games played with
the 2003, 2007 and 2008 Brown teams. Following this weekend's
games against Cornell and Columbia, Brown will have played a new
school record 31 games.
Brown and Columbia have met 124 times, dating back to 1900-1901,
with the Lions holding a 65-59 series advantage. The Lions have won
three straight games over the Bears, including a 65-64 decision
earlier this year in New York City. Prior to that, Brown had won
three straight games over the Lions, including a 67-52 decision in
the second meeting in 2007-2008.
Brown and Cornell will be meeting for the 115th time, dating back
to 1949-1950, with the Big Red holding a 68-46 series advantage.
The Big Red have won the last seven games between the two teams,
including a 74-60 win in Ithaca on 2/6/10. Brown' last win
over the Big Red was a 69-64 victory in Ithaca on 2/26/06.
Bear Facts: Senior All-Ivy center Matt Mullery
(Millstone, NJ), who scored 20 points in Saturday's win over
Dartmouth, continues to climb the 1,000-point ladder at Brown and
moved into 17th spot on Brown's all-time career scoring list
with 1,105 career points… Freshman Tucker Halpern
(Brookline, MA), Brown's third leading scorer with 8.5 points
per game, ranks second on the Brown team with 2.3 assists per game.
Halpern is coming off a 16 point performance in Brown's win
over Dartmouth… Junior tri-captain Adrian Williams (Atlanta,
GA), re-gained his shooting touch against Dartmouth, connecting on
5 of 7 treys in scoring 15 points against the Big Green…
Freshman Andrew McCarthy (Sudbury, MA) has already left his mark on
the Brown basketball program with his 32 blocked shots, eighth in
the Brown record book for a single season…Junior guard
Garrett Leffelman (Naperville, IL) has earned a starting role in
Brown's last nine games, and is averaging 11.0 ppg in Ivy
League games. He is the Ivy League's second leading shooter,
connecting on 45 of 83 field goals (.542) in league games.
Leffelman registered a new career scoring high for the third time
in four games when he netted 19 points vs. Harvard on 7 of 8
shooting from the field…Senior guard Steve Gruber
(Milwaukee, WI) handed out a career high 10 assists in
Brown's win over Dartmouth, 14th best in the Brown record
book. He is the second Ivy League player this season to hand out 10
or more assists in a game.
