Brown University Gymnastics Earns Second at Ivy Classic

Providence, RI- For the second consecutive year, the Brown
University gymnastics team earned second place at the Ivy Classic.
Hosted at Brown's Pizzitola Sports Center, Cornell University
earned first place with a score of 192.550, and was followed by
Brown (189.675), University of Pennsylvania (189.550) and Yale
(187.500). Brown's Victoria Zanelli was the only Bear
to earn a title this afternoon, as she posted a personal record of
a 9.775 on the beam. Carli Wiesenfeld did an outstanding job
for the Bears today setting personal records on almost every
event. Her stellar performances earned her a silver medal in
the all-around with a 38.225.
On the bars, Penn's Dana Bonincontri and Cornell's
Bethany Neczypor tied for first place with a 9.675, but Brown
freshman Julia Meyer was next in line with a 9.650 for second
place. Brown's next finisher was senior Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt
in 10th place with a 9.400, followed by Wiesenfeld in 11th with a
9.350 and rookie Emily Lutfey in 12th with a 9.300. Rounding out
the scores was freshman Lauren Hall with a 9.025 for 15th place.
The Bears placed second overall in the event with a team score of
46.875, just behind Cornell's 47.900.
Brown's Zanelli earned the gold on the beam with a personal record
of 9.775, and Cornell's Melanie Standridge placed second with
a 9.725. In third place was Brown's Meyer with a 9.700 and in
fourth was sophomore Carli Wiesenfeld with a 9.675. In tenth was
Kirkham-Lewitt with a 9.475 followed by a 9.100 by Lutfey for
14th. Junior Chelsey Binkley finished the scoring with a 9.0
to help Brown to a score of 47.725 to place second overall behind
Cornell's 48.050.
Brown's best event of the afternoon was the floor, as the
squad tallied a 47.875. Leading the team was Binkley's fifth
place score of 9.700, followed by Goddard's sixth place score of
9.625. In eighth place was Lutfey with a 9.600, and earning a
personal record with a 9.525 for 10th was Wiesenfeld. Also
posting solid scores were freshmen Nicole Abdo (9.425) and Hall
(9.150).
Wiesenfeld continued her great scores onto the vault, where she
earned Brown's top finish and another personal record with a
9.675 for the bronze. Following behind was Lutfey with a 9.500 for
seventh, Goddard with a 9.450 for ninth and Binkley turned in a
9.375 for 11th place. Also doing well for Bruno was Abdo, who
posted a 9.200 for 14th. Brown earned a 47.200 to place second
overall on the event, as Cornell once again earned the top spot
with its 47.950.
Yale's Brigitte Kivisto won the all-around competition with a
total score of 38.500, but Brown's Wiesenfeld came in second
place with a personal record of 38.225. Lutfey finished fourth
overall with a 37.500 and Binkley was sixth with a total of 37.250.
