Ivy League Heptagonal Championship at Dartmouth

Women's Track in First Place and Men's in Third after First Day of Ivy League Heps

Hanover, NH-The Brown men's and women's track &
field teams had a number of strong finishes during the first day of
the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heptagonal Championship at
Dartmouth. The women's team is tied for first place with
Princeton with 31 points, and the men are currently in third with
14 points. Both squads did an outstanding job today and have
athletes competing in the finals tomorrow.
On the women's side, Brown's top performances came in
the shot put as the Bears locked up first, second and fourth place
finishes. Leading the group was senior Danielle Grunloh with a
15.48m toss to earn the title, while junior Brynn Smith followed in
second with a 15.21 throw. Fourth place was earned by freshman
Victoria Buhr, who posted a 14.13m.
Also having a great day was senior Ariel Wright, who earned second
place in the 5k with a 14-second personal record and NCAA
provisional qualifying time of 16:35.98. Wright will also compete
in the 3k tomorrow as well. Freshman Hannah Wallace had a strong
sixth place finish in the pole vault, registering a personal record
of 3.60m.
On the men's side, Bryan Powlen once again had a great meet
to earn second place in the shot put with a throw of 16.87m. Both
Brian Schilder and John Loeser will be running in the one-mile
final tomorrow, Schilder ran a 4:13.94 and Loeser recorded a time
of 4:17.58.
Freshman Nate Elder had over a one-second personal record in the
500m finals with a time of 1:05.29.
