
Princeton Rolls to 64-38 Victory Against Bears

Providence, RI- First place Princeton University (21-2, 9-0 Ivy)
rolled to a 64-38 victory over the Brown women's basketball
team (7-17, 4-6 Ivy) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday
evening. Devona Allgood led the Tigers with 16 points and 10
rebounds, as senior guard Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) led the
Brown offense with 10 points.
In a first half that saw 22 turnovers, Princeton was able to gain a
10-5 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Senior forward
Natalie Bonds broke the team's four-minute drought with a
layup at the 6:57 mark to cut Bruno's deficit to 15-7.
A three pointer by sophomore forward Aileen Daniels put the score
at 22-12 with 2:31 left in the first half, and Johnson followed
with a jumper on the right side to cut Brown's deficit to
eight. But the Tigers' Tani Brown nailed a three from the
corner to extend the team's lead back up to 11 with 1:16 left
to end the half with a 27-16 advantage over the Bears.
The Bears shot just 28 percent in the first 20 minutes as Princeton
shot 37 percent from the floor and was led by Devona
Allgood's eight points and six rebounds.
Princeton continued to roll in the second half, and went on to hold
Brown scoreless for nearly six minutes and went on a 13-2 run to
gain a 40-18 lead with 11:22 remaining in the game.
Princeton's stifling defense continued to cause havoc for the
Bears, as the Tigers went on to extend its lead to 49-24. However,
Brown's Caroline King put in a layup and Johnson picked up a
steal and made a layup to cut the deficit to 49-28, and Passafuime
added a free throw to cut the score to 49-29 with 4:13 remaining in
the game.
The Bears fought to the end but it still wasn't enough to
overcome the tough Tigers, as Princeton came out with a 64-38 win.
Brown ended shooting just 24 percent from the field as Christina Johnson led the team in scoring with 10 points and five
rebounds.
Princeton went 45 percent from the floor and made 17-of-23 from the
free throw line.
The Bears are back in action when it hosts Harvard on Feb. 26 and
Dartmouth on Saturday Feb. 27 for its last two home games of the
2009-2010 season.
