
Brown Defeats Harvard 15-7; Falls to Princeton 7-6 in Ivy Championship Finals

Princeton, NJ- The Brown University men's water polo team defeated Harvard 15-7 in the semi finals of the Ivy League Championships but then fell 7-6 in overtime to host Princeton in the finals on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Svetozar Stefanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) led the Bears attack with five goals, while senior Corey Schwartz (Los Angeles, CA) added three to help Brown to its victory over Harvard. Brown darted out to a 6-2 lead after the first eight minutes, and both teams tallied two goals in the second as Brown headed into the half with an 8-4 lead.
Brown continued to roll scoring two goals in the third and five in the fourth to secure the win. James McNamara (Los Angeles, CA) and Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) each added to the scoring with two goals apiece, followed by Michael Hartwick (Los Angeles, CA) and Grant Villeneuve (Atherton, CA). Walker Shockley (Diamond Bar, CA) combined for nine saves in net to lead the defensive effort.
In the finals against Princeton, the Bears gained an immediate 1-0 advantage after the first quarter, and increased their lead 4-2 by the half. But the Tigers outscored Brown 1-0 in the third and 2-1 in the fourth to tie the game up at 5-5 to force the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime. But the Tigers were able to tally two goals to Brown's one in the final overtime to earn the win.
