Bears Fall Short, 64-55, to Albany

Providence, RI- Despite freshman Lindsay Nickel's 16
points and 15 rebounds by senior Natalie Bonds, the Bears fell
64-55 to the University at Albany at the Pizzitola Sports Center
this evening. Brown's overall record drops to 3-10 on the
year as Albany improves to 7-6.
The Bears played a solid first half against the Great Danes in
which the score was tied seven times and the lead change five.
Freshman Lindsay Nickel netted 10 points and the Bears dominated
Albany 27-13 on the boards, which included eight by senior forward
Natalie Bonds, but it wasn't enough as the Great Danes gained
a 33-31 advantage to head into the locker room at halftime.
Nickel drained a three pointer to boost Brown to an 8-6 lead five
minutes into the half, but two free throws by Albany's Julie
Forster tied the game up at eight. Both teams continued to go
basket-for-basket throughout the half, and a jump shot by junior
Sarah Delk put the Bears within two, 23-21, with 4:56 remaining in
the stanza.
Two free throws by freshman Caroline King evened the score 29-29
with 1:17 left on the clock, but Albany's Keyana Williams
threw in two free throws to regain a two-point advantage with 44
seconds remaining. Senior point guard Courtney Lee hit a jumper on
the left baseline to knot the score at 31. Albany was able to score
with nine seconds left on the clock, as the Great Danes headed into
the half with a 33-31 lead.
The Bears got off to a slow start in the first four minutes of the
second half, as Albany exploded to take a 10-point lead with the
help of Ebone Henry and Felicia Johnson. But the Bears buckled down
and Delk went on to score five points to bring Bruno back within
four with 10 minutes to go, but Albany extended its lead to 49-43
with 7:18 remaining in the game.
Nickel hit a three to bring Brown within eight, but a jumper by
Albany's Keyana Williams pushed it up to 10. A trey by Nickel
brings the score to 59-53, with just under a minute left on the
clock, and Bonds added a jumper in the paint to cut Brown's
deficit four, but Albany gained back a nine point lead to win the
game, 64-55.
Lindsay Nickel led all scorers with 16 points on six-of-10 shooting
from the field, and Sarah Delk finished with 12 points and seven
rebounds. Natalie Bonds pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and
added six points, as the Bears tallied 53 rebounds to
Albany's 29. The Bears finished the game shooting 32 percent
from the field and tallied 25 turnovers in the game. Albany
finished shooting 36 percent from the field and tallied just 10
turnovers on the night. Leading Albany was Felicia Johnson with 16
points, followed by Ebone Henry with 14.
The Bears are back in action at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10 at
Syracuse.
